learning kitchen
Wellspring Healthy Living Centre's latest addition, a purpose built Community Learning Kitchen was completed in October 2008.
The primary function of the kitchen is to run healthy eating courses and classes, and also to host a variety of food and health related events to engage the community.
These courses/classes are for residents of Barton Hill and the surrounding area, and will aim to promote the knowledge and understanding of healthy eating, and to increase the cooking skills of local people.
Cooking courses and taster sessions are up and running in the kitchen which accommodates up to 9 people, and includes a disabled unit. Courses such as Healthy eating for parents with under 5’s, Creative cooking for young people and World Cookery-a taste of the world from one community, has shown high demand.
Other activities include, healthy eating/cooking with Somalian women’s group, healthy eating for the 50+ (including the recently bereaved) and food & mood, for people with low mental health. These courses will continue to build on the previous courses success and enable Wellspring Kitchen to respond to more requests.
Please see the What's On page for details of current courses.
