Polish Health Engagement Project
The Polish Health Engagement Project was launched at Wellspring in May 2010 to support migrants in accessing primary healthcare, mental health support, wellbeing services, as well as learning, training, and volunteering opportunities. Project workers provide advice to migrants and act as advocates. The health and wellbeing of Polish migrants is the main focus but the service is open to all new migrants from Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), including Roma people.
As of February 2012, due to our funding situation, we are unable to accept new referrals for one to one support and currently we only provide a signposting service. Specifically, we can refer migrants for:
· specialist welfare advice,
· health advocacy service,
· mental health support in English,
· domestic violence and abuse support with a Polish-speaking worker.
We also refer migrants for English courses and, in partnership with the City of Bristol College, we provide an entry-level English course at Wellspring on Mondays, 10.00-12.30. The course runs from 12 March until 9 July 2012.
Please note the Low Cost Counselling service is open as usual and also offers professional mental health support in Polish at affordable rates. More details here
In addition, we may refer migrants for art workshops (clay, photography) that run regularly at Wellspring and include activities for service users with mental health issues.
To contact Polish project workers, call 0117 304 1426 or email us in either English or Polish at jakub.jablonowski@wellspringhlc.org. Please note we normally return calls within a week and it may take up to three weeks before new clients can be seen.
