Support Us
Wellspring Healthy Living Centre is a health and wellbeing charity and depends on support from volunteers, donations from individuals, companies and charitable trusts, people shopping with us and using the internet and even doing a sponsored run in the Bristol Half Marathon. All this enables Wellspring to continue the valuable services and activities we deliver.
Wellspring is based in an area of high deprivation and offers local residents’ suffering from depression and anxiety one to one support with a Health and Wellbeing worker. A range of health and social issues will be addressed during these sessions as well as signposting to positive activities such as complementary therapies, cooking and art classes. The aim is to improve mental health by reducing isolation through social activities, raise confidence and self esteem through learning new skills and participating in new experiences. Residents become more active in their community and feel more empowered to make positive changes in their lives. This could mean becoming more involved in volunteering, going back to college or back into employment.
The following is a case study of one of the clients we have worked with;
Jane was referred to Mandy Cox, Health and Wellbeing worker by her G.P. Jane had lived with mental health issues for many years. More recently life had become very stressful as her role as full time carer for her husband came to an end when he left the family home; Jane felt depressed and isolated. She had reached a point where she felt she couldn't cope and was feeling suicidal.
Meeting weekly with Mandy, Jane became more trusting; she felt she was being "listened to and not judged". She had found previous experiences of this nature too clinical and felt she was being seen as an illness rather than a person. Mandy referred Jane to counselling and with encouragement Jane also began coming to the art and knitting groups.
In the latest chapter of Jane's story, we can report that she is now an active an socialable member of several groups and now volunteers at Wellspring on a regular basis.
Jane says of Wellspring, "it has been my lifeline."
Please look at the various ways in which you can support Wellspring as there is something for everyone and whichever way you decide to support us we would like to thank you on behalf of Jane and all our clients.
