Wellbeing team

Health and wellbeing project
The Wellbeing team organises a range of activities to help improve the physical and mental wellbeing of local people. The team arranges a bike loan scheme, fitness classes, one-off art projects and support groups. The project works with the PCT and health charities to bring a range of services to the WHLC which promote good physical and mental wellbeing, including Branching Out, where one to one support is given for people living with depression (you must be referred by your GP for this service).

Men’s health
The WHLC works with men on a one-to-one basis or in groups.
A new group, Time Out for Men started in September 2009, running from 2.30 – 4.30 every Tuesday in the Wellspring Kitchen . Activities include healthy eating and lots of chats! We will also provide information on general health.
The Men’s Health Worker also holds one-to-one advice sessions at Lawrence Hill Health Centre on Hassell Drive .
He is also looking at ways to raise health issues around Somali Men and how to reach out more to those who do not visit Health Centres .

The project also provides individual Support to Stop Smoking sessions for men and women.

Polish Health Engagement Project

This is a completely new service, funded by the Migration Impact Fund Partnership, for members of the local Polish community looking to improve their physical and mental wellbeing. Anna and Jakub work on identifying and filling the gaps in existing service provision and advise on how to access these services efficiently as well as providing information on English language courses, training and voluntary opportunities and many more.

I look forward to coming to class every week. Gret fun, great teacher, we're improving every lesson.
